Bringing Liverpool History Back to Life…

|

Did you know? The Municipal Hotel Liverpool’s cast iron radiators date back to 1868.

A Grade II listed challenge

Built in 1862, the Municipal Building in Liverpool — today the Municipal Hotel Liverpool — is a Grade II listed masterpiece. Preserving its original features, including the cast iron radiators, was paramount to the hotel’s restoration project.

Some of the radiators are circular and intricately designed, in keeping with the building’s Second Empire architecture and its French-influenced detailing. That made them a unique challenge: each one is one-of-a-kind, so any leak or imperfection couldn’t simply be fixed with a swapped-in part.

Chosen by English Heritage

Radrestore is a leading provider of cast iron radiator restoration services in the UK, and we were privileged to be chosen by English Heritage to breathe new life into the historic cast iron radiators of the Municipal Hotel in Liverpool.

Our restoration process

After carefully transporting the radiators to our workshop, each one underwent our signature restoration process. That meant blasting away years of paint and debris, followed by expert repairs and rigorous testing to ensure leak-free operation.

An aged gold finish

Finally, the radiators received their finishing touch: a beautiful aged gold finish to complement the hotel’s period interior.
